Period 2/3 Becky Essay The story we read is called “Becky and the Wheels -and- Brake Boys” written by James Berry. It tells of a girl named Becky who really wants a bike but can’t get one until the end of the story. Becky is a credible character. She shows that she is credible because what she feels, says, and does Becky is credible because she wants to fit in with the other children. For example, Becky thinks, “ I only want to be with Nat, Aldo, Jimmy, and Ben.” They all have bikes, and she wants one too, so she can ride and play with them. This shows that Becky is credible because most children want to fit in. Furthermore, Becky is believable because she keeps begging her mum. Becky says to herself, “Over and over I told my mum I wanted a bike.” A while later she tells her mum, “ I still want a bike badly.” In order to get what she wants, Becky thinks she has to ask several times and give reasons. This shows Becky is believable because almost all kids love begging for things until they get them.
Moreover, Becky is credible because she fights with her friend, Shirnette. Shirnette wanted to get back at Becky because she let a centipede crawl up her back, so Shirnette let a cockroach fly in her blouse. Becky says to herself, “ Oh, the smell of a cockroach is the nastiest ever to block your nose!” This shows that Becky is a realistic character because a lot of best friends fight and make up. In conclusion, Becky, the main character in “ Becky and the Wheels and Break Boys,” is believable because of her emotions, her words, and her actions. That shows Becky is a regular, normal child.
